FROM MAYOR ZAINUL ABIDIN RASHEED
- Welcome, New Year!
spring home :: necdc home

Life is what you make it out to be. We all learn to cope with the occasional bumps in the journey of life. Looking back at the year 2005, rather than have regrets, we should be inspired to move forward and embrace the challenges ahead. The year saw much suffering ensue from the wrath of natural disasters, reminding us how fragile and valuable life is. Nevertheless, compassion proved to be borderless, as volunteers and contributions streamed in from across the globe, offering help.

At home, we saw the economy improving, and Singaporeans changing and adapting, many with renewed hopes and dreams. And with the implementation of Comcare, we have been able to reduce the anxiety of those who really need immediate help to tide them over difficult times.

As we journey on, we will grow stronger as one people. No one is ever alone as we work hard to realise our hopes and dreams – whether it’s being the next Cybergames champion, a scholar, the next Singapore ‘Idol’, or even finding a job for those temporarily out of work. Let us welcome the new year with renewed vigour, resilience and a sense of harmony worthy of our Singapore. I wish all a Happy New Year 2006!
